Dante Giacosa was responsible for a whole range of small Fiats.
His Fiat 500 "Topolino" ("Mickey Mouse") was introduced in 1936. It was
built until 1955 when its successor was introduced: the 600.

The 500 Nuova (new 500), also by Giacosa, looked like an even smaller version of the 600. It was introduced on the 4th of July 1957. A few minor model changes were made over the years (500D, 500F and 500L), aswell as a stationwagon version (the 500 Giardiniera).
Production ceased in 1975 with the 500R, which shared it's engine with the Fiat 126 (still rear-engined, like all other small Fiat's!) since 1972. 3.5 Million 'new' 500's had been built in those 18 years.
The Fiat 500 also knows many derived versions (also known as the "Etceterini"). Abarth, Autobianchi, Ghia, Giannini, Lombardi, Moretti, Steyr-Puch, Vignale, Weinsberg and Zagato all based one or more weird and wonderful creations on the ever popular 500.
