REMOVING THE DOOR TRIM

DESCRIPTION	TOOLS
There are a couple of reasons for removing the door trim. the main one is to adjust the window alignment. Another is to lubricate the window mechanism, which can become sluggish or stop in cold weather.	Tools: Size 3 Hex wrench, Body trim removal tool (or metal ruler and cloth)
STEP	ACTION
1	Fully open the window, you need to do this as the door must be locked for part of this process (the central locking system will not lock unless the doors are shut).
2	Remove screw from the bottom of the speaker, then lifting from the screw hole side unhook the speaker, it is held in place by 2 plastic lugs. If you pull from the wrong side or are too forceful these lugs can break. NOTE: You should not have to remove the speaker wires to take off the trim panel, but if you do remove the connections make a note of which colour wire connects to which terminal.

3	Remove the screw from the door release handle shroud, you will have to hold the handle out of the way to access the screw.

4	Gently prize the panel away from the door using a trim removal tool or a thin piece of metal (such as a ruler) covered in cloth (to avoid scratching the paintwork). The panel is held in place by several plastic plugs, make sure you prize the panel off gently so the plugs do not break.

4	The panel is now held on only by the door opener shroud. To remove the shroud, shut the door and push the lock to the LOCKED position. This is the fiddly bit... Lift the shroud from the end nearest the locking button and slide the whole panel (and shroud) towards the front of the car. Do not pull the shroud as it has 2 plastic lugs holding it to the door opener and these could snap. The pictures show which bit of the handle stays on the door and which bit the shroud is

5	Behind the panel is a plastic membrane, gently remove this to access the door and window parts. The picture below shows the window runner and motor mechanism marked in yellow. The easiest way to see where you should lubricate the runners (to stop slow window motion) is to open and close the window. NOTE: if you are using the electrics you may wish to have the engine running to avoid flattening the battery, if you run the engine make sure you are outside or in a well ventilated area.

6	When you have completed the work behind the panel, put everything back together in reverse order. If you note where the lugs are on the back of the trim panel you will know where to apply pressure to get the panel to clip back into place. When replacing the speaker, locate the lugs first, it can only go in one way around, with the lugs to the flat side of the hole.
